I am a long-time resident of Durham, NC, along with my husband, two
children and assortment of pets. I am a member and part-owner
of the
Hillsborough
Gallery of Arts in historic Hillsborough, NC. My
work also can be seen at
Bull City Art and
Frame Company in downtown Durham.
While most regularly an oil painter, I like to explore and play with
many different media, including acrylics, block printing, fiber arts,
mosaics and jewelry making. I enjoy mixing media in my
paintings, which can result in interesting blends of paint, paper and
printing.
My background in environmental science and my years of work with
The Nature Conservancy
informs my art and shows in my affinity for trees, water, birds and
other animals, and the rest of the living world.
This year I am building a large art studio and will be offering a range
of summer camps for children ages 8-14. In the future I plan
to
offer creative evening events for adults. The name of my
studio
is "Double Luck" because of all the things for which I am grateful (and
because I like to collect good luck charms).
In addition to making and teaching art, I am actively involved in both
Girl Scouts
and Boy Scouts. I also am learning to play the mandolin.
